desert rose

to keep myself from running

i draw a line across the sand

and vow to never take a step

across this invisible wall.

i draw a line in the sand

because i cannot afford to break

over that invisible wall

flames begin to build.

because i cannot afford to break

i shed my fear and anger

flames begin to build

but we don’t wish for the same outcome.

i shed my fear and anger

in order to spark a change

but we don’t wish for the same outcome

and so i take a breath and move on.
