Horae: Familiar Strangers

We settle at a setting we know

Similar seats and tables,

(They never changed it)

Same street

Another restaurant there

A supermarket replaced the toy store

My old bus stop is gone

It’s a microcosm of what will soon be apparent

Choosing from a somewhat recognisable menu

Nothing new of note

Or at least I lack interest in any

Old classics are fine with me

We talk at the wrong moment

Give account of the current

Gradually becoming aware

We’re trying to make conversation with people who were never here

Who were never going to attend

We don’t fit into each others puzzle pieces

Not like before

The pieces changed and the whole picture is different

There’s no tether available from before.

Let go and try again

We find recognisable seats

Ones we spent the cold and heat at

The place wasn’t sold while we were gone

Same old street.

There’s no crime in it

The unfamiliar

Or we’d both be guilty

No need to narrow ourselves to the formerly

Additional narratives and names to get engaged in

New things to note

A new venue to begin again

Even if in vain
